M2+ World Rowing Championships, Nottingham 1986
theSculler  · November 19, 2008
One of the most breathtaking races ever. Italian rowing legends Giuseppe and Carmine Abbagnale, reigning olympic and world champions, face East Germans Olaf Foerster and Thomas Greiner (who last defeated them in the 1983 worlds together with Ulrich Diessner) and British reigning 4+ olympians Steve Redgrave and Andy Holmes, who are also competing in the coxless pairs. All of these men will take gold in Seoul two years later (although of course in different boat classes).

Agreed this is a great race, but nowhere near as exciting as the 89 Lucerne M2+ final: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idVQ5mKupaw&feature=related
