This video has been produced to assist crews in navigating the highly technical 8km "Head of the Yarra" course in Melbourne. Held annually in November, the Head of the Yarra is an 8 km time-trial, exclusively for eights. First held in 1957, the race is a Yarra river showcase attracting thousands of rowers, including some of the best rowers from across Australia and internationally. The Head of the Yarra is a true coxswain’s race. Coxswains must take the best line over the winding 8 km course, navigate the 11 bridges, the tight bends, motivate their crews, while avoiding boat clashes, for the best time over the course.
