In light of the holidays, I thought I would forward along a picture of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Crew at our Annual "Class Day Races," where each class forms a boat, creates their own...."uniform," and races each other out on the lake. The attached picture is of the winning boat, the Juniors/Seniors (we didn't have enough juniors or seniors to create a separate boat for each).

"I've scanned it from an old foreign magazine and pieced it together from two pages. All I know for sure is that it's a Cornell crew. Judging by the equipment and their size, they're probably lightweights and from late 80's. We'd really like to get this picture identified and are hoping that your site could help us with that." Anyone?

Earliest known rowing erg?
Submitted by: Mike Modlin

Here in Northern California we're surrounded by heavy agriculture and the remnants of the old logging industry. One of our local fairs, the Sonoma County Gravenstein Apple Fair, has an annual display of old steam engines, tractors, etc…. The attached pictures are of a 1910 woodcutter, but we saw it as the earliest known rowing erg.
