Canal Dock Boathouse seeks a part-time, seasonal rowing coach to assist with our Youth Summer Intro to Rowing Clinic Sessions.
The camp has 7 one week sessions:
1) June 24-28
2) July 8-12
3) July 15-19
4) July 22-26
5) July 29-August 2
6) August 5-9
7) August 12-16
The sessions run from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm for youth enrolled. Coaches are expected to be on site between 7:15 -7:30 for set-up, and stay until all youth have left the program/all equipment has been cleaned and properly stored.
Primary Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Assist in teaching basic rowing technique (sculling) to youth from diverse backgrounds. This includes on-water as well as on-land workouts. Most youth have never rowed before.
-Provide technical feedback to ensure participant safety while also ensuring all youth have a positive and productive experience.
-Proper equipment handling
-Safety in tidal waters
-Concept 2 RowErg proficiency and training
-Plyometrics, body weight training, and stretching
-Collecting camper applications and minor administrative responsibilities
-Working in tandem with other Learn to Row Coaches and Canal Dock staff, especially in regards to all equipment and launch issues
-Pre and post practice set up and break down
-Provide pictures and social media information as needed
-Encourage participants to join Row Haven Youth in the Fall
Qualifications include, but are not limited to:
-4 years of rowing on the club, scholastic and/or collegiate level, sculling or sweep or cox
- Prior coaching experience with competitive experience is a plus but not required
-Ability to work well with high school aged kids
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Red Cross CPR and First Aid certified (can obtain upon hire)
-CT Boat and Water Safety Certified- can obtain upon hire
-Full background check required, National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI), CT Department of Children and Families background check
-SafeSport certified and compliant
-Ability to swim 100 yards in a competent manner and float, relatively motionless, for at least 5 minutes (Canal Dock Swim Test Certification).
