COLLINGSWOOD, NJ -- The University of Massachusetts won its fifth Bell Atlantic Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship title in as many years this afternoon on the Cooper River in Collingswood, NJ.

The Minutewomen won three of nine races in posting 49 total points. George Washington placed second with 40 points, Dayton and St. Joseph's tied for third with 26 points, and Rhode Island and Temple tied for fifth with 12 points. La Salle was seventh with eight points, Duquesne placed eighth with seven points, and Fordham was ninth with four points.

Both Massachusetts and George Washington won three events apiece. The Minutewomen captured first in the Quad (7:54.4), Second Varsity 8 (7:16.6), and Varsity 8 (6:51.5). The Colonials crossed the line first in the Novice 8-B (8:04.8), Novice 4 (8:49.3), and Novice 8-A (7:26.7)

Temple's victory in the Varsity 4 (8:05.7) marked the first time a crew from Temple has ever won a final at the Bell Atlantic Atlantic 10 Championship. Dayton won its first final since 1996 in taking the Lightweight 4 in 8:28.7. St. Joseph's won its first final since 1997 in winning the Lightweight 8 in 7:32.8.

In addition to its three victories, UMass had four second place finishes - Novice 8-B (8:35.1), Lightweight 4 (8:40.4), Lightweight 8 (7:46.9), and Novice 8-A (7:49.1). George Washington garnered a pair of second place finishes - Second Varsity 8 (7:37.2) and Varsity 8 (6:55.7). Rhode Island had a second place finish in the Quad (8:02.4), Dayton was second in the Novice 4 (8:50.0), and La Salle was second in the Varsity 4 (8:06.4).

For the second year in a row, no meet records were eclipsed.

In voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches, George Washington's Steve Peterson was honored as the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year.
