Being able to row in SoCal - San Diego, Newport, Long Beach, Marina del Ray - glassy water and warm temps in the 60s and 70s. Seals on the race course and dolphins in the Bay, it doesn't get much better in December.

Addendum to flat water: no motor boat traffic; no channel buoys; no novice crews (I'm the only one crazy enough to wet-dock!)
