Yale, Columbia and Stanford Lead the Second USRowing Coaches Poll

Yale University dominated the varsity heavyweight men’s field, winning the Copley Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic last weekend and taking sole possession of the number one spot in the second USRowing Coaches Poll.
Covering the course in less than six minutes, Yale posted the fastest time of the regatta and earned 12 first-place votes to break last week’s poll tie with University of Washington. Washington, which also had a strong weekend and defeated Brown University on the Montlake Cut, earned two first-place votes and was ranked second. Princeton University was third, while University of California and Brown rounded out the top five.
In the lightweight men’s poll, Columbia University moved into first and earned two-first place votes after edging Princeton University in Leonia, N.J. Cornell University had seven first-place votes and was ranked second, while Yale University was third. Princeton and Harvard finished fourth and fifth.
Stanford University earned all six first place votes and held its top position in the lightweight women’s poll after the winning the A.W. Coggeshall Cup for the sixth consecutive year at the San Diego Crew Classic Sunday.
Harvard-Radcliffe’s lightweight women swept Georgetown to hold the Class of 2004 Cup Saturday morning on Boston’s Charles River and finished second in the poll, followed by Boston University in third. The University of Wisconsin and Princeton University rounded out the top five.
