The women's pair finished fourth today at the final Olympic qualification regatta (Lucerne, Switzerland) and do not receive an Olympic berth for Canada in this event.
Germany won today?s final in 7:17.88, Argentina was second in 7:20.05 - these crews qualify for the 2012 Olympics (in addition to those crews that qualified last year at the World Championships). Croatia (7:22.24), Canada (7:22.67), Belarus (7:24.61) and France (7:31.21) miss out at this last-chance attempt to make it to the Games.
The women's pair crew at this regatta is Natalie Mastracci of Thorold, Ontario, and Larissa Lagzdins of Burlington, Ontario.
"It was a valiant effort by both athletes," said Peter Cookson, High Performance Director for Rowing Canada Aviron. "Unfortunately, today they were beaten out in fierce competition for those final two Olympic spots."
This was Canada's only crew at this final qualifier.
The Canadian boats that have already qualified - based on last year's World Championships results - will compete this weekend at World Cup 2, also in Lucerne, Switzerland.
