Canada's two junior crews gave it their best shot, but will not advance to the medal rounds after today's repechage races at the FISA World Rowing Junior Championships in Trakai, Lithuania.
Repechages give the athletes a second chance to move on in the championships. As many of these crews are racing at an international event for the first time, it meant for more consistent racing than in yesterday's preliminary heats. However, it was a difficult day for Canada's men's double and four.
"They are disappointed but not defeated, today's performances showed a world of improvement over the heats," said Canada's National Junior Program coordinator, Will Dodds.
Russ McShane and Brendan Hodge, both from Brentwood College in Mill Bay, B.C., were fourth in the rep for the junior men's double event in 7.09.56.
Canada's four was fifth in its rep in 6.37.74 - the Netherlands and Germany will advance after finishing in the top two. The junior men's four is Marcus English, Mathew Willow, Colin Wright and Graham Rusk - all based in Victoria, B.C.
Canada will still have an opportunity to row for placings, but both crews are out of medal contention. Junior rowers are 18 and younger.
