Three former members of the Rutgers rowing program have been busy this summer, representing US Rowing.
Jake Goodman (05) competed at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in July. Goodman rowed the lightweight straight four, finishing third in the preliminary heat with a time 6:11.19. The USA just missed out on a spot in the A Final, finishing fourth in its semifinal heat (6:07.07) and missing a top-three finish by less than a second. However, the Americans bounced back to finish second in the B Final, and eighth overall, with a time of 6:40.75.
Goodman, who was a senior for the Scarlet Knights this past spring, won a gold in the lightweight division at the 2004 Oxford-Cambridge Lightweight Boat Race, and earned a silver in the intermediate lightweight quad sculls at the 2003 USRowing National Championships.
Sharon Kriz (98) will row the bow seat for the U.S. womens eight at the FISA World Rowing Championships, held Aug. 28 Sept. 4 in Gifu, Japan.
Kriz has been very active on the national and international scene since leaving the Banks. Most recently, she won a bronze medal at the 2005 BearingPoint World Cup, finished sixth in the championship single sculls at the 2004 Head of the Charles, and won the championship eight and senior pair at the 2004 Canadian Henley. Kriz was second in the pair and fifth in the single sculls at the 2005 National Selection Regattas, was third in the four at the 2004 World Championship Trials and won the elite single sculls while placing second in the elite double sculls at the 2003 USRowing National Championships.
Sam Stitt (04) will row in the mens doubles at the FISA World Rowing Championships later this month.
Stitt, who placed second in the Ladies Plate Challenge Cup at the 2003 Henley Royal Regatta with his Scarlet Knight teammates, won the double sculls at the second 2005 National Selection Regatta. He also finished sixth with the RU varsity eight at the 2003 Eastern Sprints.
