Day two of the USRowing Masters National Championship Regatta is complete at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. With hot and humid conditions, racing continued with morning heats and finals in the afternoon.
To highlight the day's events, the Occoquan International crew of Chuck Selden, Bill Purdy, Philip Stekl, Jeffrey Schafer, Roman Lesnau, Peter Kermond, Mike Totta, Dennis Sitek and coxswain Gary Goldring clocked the fastest time of the day in men's D eight final. After winning the second of two heats earlier in the day, the crew proved to be unstoppable in the final, clocking a time of 2:57.48. Minneapolis Rowing Club won the first heat and clocked a 2:59.88 to finish second in the final. Crossing the line close behind, Florida Athletic Club took third in a 3:00.65.
East Arm Rowing Club's Jim Cody, Cliff Williams, Katie Cody, Ann Williams and coxswain Meagan Cody captured a win in the heat and final of the mixed C four with coxswain event. The crew clocked a time of 3:25.68 in the final. David Crouse, Eric Summers, Sharon Romilly, Dainne Schubeck and coxswain Joseph Peter of the Syracuse Chargers Rowing Club took second place, with a time of 3:34.19. Western Reserve Rowing Association trailed by 2.85 seconds for third.
In the final of the women's double sculls, Minneapolis Rowing Club's Kristina Lund and Jill Cooper won in a 3:40.83. The duo defeated morning heat-winners Kathy Lhomm and Karen Simmons of GMS Rowing Center. The GMS crew finished with a time of 3:44.72, with Atlanta Rowing Center's Judy Kerr and Martha Weeks in a 3:49.14 for third.
Capital Rowing Club's A boat of Sarah Dunham, Kelley OConnell, Jennifer Ney, Kim Symes and coxswain Gretchen Abell captured a win in both the morning heat and afternoon final of the women's club B four with coxswain. Capital crossed the line in a 3:35.42, followed by Community Rowing, Inc., with a time of 3:37.27. Capital Rowing Club's B boat finished just 2.32 seconds behind in third, with a time of 3:39.59.
Racing continues on Saturday with morning heats and afternoon finals.
