PRINCETON, N.J. - Competition for spots on the United States Junior Team begins Monday on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
Thirty-three crews from 26 clubs will compete in six events at the 2013 Junior World Championships Trials, July 7-9, including the men's and women's junior single sculls, men's and women's junior pair and men's and women's junior double sculls.
Winners of the events will be named to the team that will compete in the World Rowing Junior Championships, August 7-11 in Trakai, Lithuania. The largest field will be in the junior men's single, with 13 athletes going to the line. Nine junior women are racing in the women's junior single.
Racing begins Monday morning with a time trial in the men's and women's single. Four boats advance from each time trial. Racing will resume Monday afternoon with the first final in all events.
Three boats from the first final will advance to the second final, scheduled for Tuesday morning. A best-of-three format will be used to determine the event winners and the first crew to win two races will win the event.
A third final, if necessary, will be run Tuesday evening and will be contested by the winners of the first two races.
