Three Canadian crews advanced today at the 2007 FISA World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Strathclyde, Scotland, (July 26 to 29).
The men's single of Fraser Berkhout of St. Catharines, Ont. won his repechage in 7:14.65 to advance to the semi-final.
"It was nice to get the extra race in because I don't have a lot of international experience," said Berkhout. "I feel well rested and ready to race again (in the semi)."
Tim Colson of London, Ont. won his rep in 7:20.78 and will also move to the semi-final.
Canada's lightweight men's four won its rep in 6:17.03, France also qualified in a close finish behind Canada in 6:17.66, followed by Spain in 6:23.53.
The U23 men's pair - Michael Wilkinson (North Vancouver, BC.) and Christian Dabrowski (Montreal, Que.) - will end up in the C final (for places 13 to 18) after finishing fourth in today's rep in 6:59.39.
In an exhibition race, Canada's Under-23 women's eight was fourth. The men's eight already advanced with their result yesterday.
Conditions continued to be challenging, but fair, for all rowers.
