USRowing will have five crews racing at the 2002 World Under 23 Regatta July 25-28 in Genoa, Italy. The U.S. will send a women’s double sculls, women’s pair, women’s four, men’s pair and men’s eight to the event, which is considered the under 23 world championships.
Last year, the U.S. brought home silver medals in both the women’s four and the men’s eight. This year’s squad includes five returnees from last year’s team. Beau Hoopman, Matthew Deakin and John Cranston all rowed in the men’s eight last year, while Peter Giese and Andrew Brennan finished fourth in the men’s pair.
The squad also includes several former junior national team members. Brennan, Cranston, Christopher Liwiski, Ryan Marks and Lia Pernell all raced on previous junior national teams.
USRowing is the non-profit membership organization recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of rowing in the U.S. USRowing’s Official Patron is Concept2, its Official Electronics Outfitter is Nielsen Kellerman, and its Preferred Printer is Sport Graphics Printing.
