Canadian rowers Melanie Kok of St. Catharines, Ont. and Tracy Cameron of Shubenacadie, N.S., rowing in the women's double event, today won their race at the Koninklijke-Holland Beker (June 7 and 8, 2008) in Amsterdam.
Kok and Cameron, who were third at the Lucerne World Cup last week in the lightweight women's double, took the race in 7:14.51; Belarus was second in 7:21.52 and The Netherlands third in 7:22.73.
"The competition is obviously not the same as a World Cup, but for this crew it's another stage in preparation for the Olympics," said coach Al Morrow. "They are getting more racing under their belts to tune up for the next World Cup (in Poland later this month) and the Olympics (in Beijing)."
This is Canada's only entry in the regatta, and the crew will race again on Sunday.
The Koninklijke - Holland Beker, established in 1886, is the largest international rowing event in the Netherlands. The regatta is held on the Bosbaan in Amsterdam each year.
