Hartford, Conn., June 19, 2008 - The Trinity College women's rowing team, which recorded its best-ever record in dual races at 15-0 this spring, won its third New England Championship title, and won the NCAA Division III Varsity Eight National Championship crown (fastest boat in all of NCAA Division III) three weeks ago in California, will compete in the Henley Women's Regatta this weekend in England. The Bantams, coached by Wesley Ng (2nd Season), will be making their first appearance at Henley since 1999 and are entered in the Senior 8+ category (Open) for the first time in the program's history. A winning performance in this weekend's racing will qualify Trinity for its first Rememhan Cup, which will take place at the Henley Royal Regatta in July.
Trinity has two eights and a four attempting to qualify and qualifying races for the fours will begin on Friday, June 20. The Bantam first varsity eight will open against a crew from the Cambridge'99 Boat Club and the second varsity will take on a crew from the Thames Rowing Club on Saturday morning with quarterfinal races that same afternoon and the semifinals and finals on Sunday.
The first varsity eight boat at Henley should include senior co-captain Carmel Zahran (Oakbrook, Ill.), senior and two-time, All-American Loren Massimino (Bridgeport, Conn.), senior Alison Schmidt (York, Pa.), juniors Natalie Jones (Haverford, Pa.), Ashley Swiggert (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Amory Minot (Chestnut Hill, Mass.), sophomores Deede Dixon (Manchester, Mass.) and Eleanor Wierzbowski (Walpole, N.H.), and sophomore coxswain Stephanie Apstein (Waban, Mass.).
The second varsity eight boat at the NCAA Championships should include senior co-captain Amanda Kulik (Salem, Mass.), senior Nadia Zahran (Oak Brook, Ill.), juniors Ali Berluti (Westwood, Mass.), Eveline Case (New Canaan, Conn.), and Alexandra Purdie (Linwood, N.J.), sophomore coxswain Courteney Coyne (Westwood, Mass.), and freshmen Mina Aiken (Palm Beach, Fla.), Jamie Callahan (North Andover, Mass.), and Sarah Keller (Perrysburg, Ohio).
The varsity four boat at the NCAA Championships should include junior coxswain Elizabeth Molano (Cambridge, Mass.), sophomore Hannah Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and freshmen Chloe Aronson (Rye, N.Y.), Tracey Suter (Haddonfield, N.J.), and LeAire Wilson (Wenham, Mass).
Fellow rookies Remi Evans (Englewood, Colo.) and Emily Gittleman (Princeton, N.J.) are alternates.
