The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced the 2005 Coach of the Year recipients for all divisions. Dave O'Neill (California) was the Division I National Coach of the Year, while John Fuchs (Western Washington) and Marina Traub (Trinity College) were tabbed the Division II and Division III Coaches of the Year, respectively.
O'Neill led the Golden Bears to their first-ever NCAA Championship this past month. California's previous best prior to the 2005 season was a third-place finish in 2002. Fuchs led the Vikings to their first national title in 2005. He previously guided Western Washington to runner-up finishes in 2002 and 2003. Traub led Trinity College to a third-place finish at the Division III championship, best ever for the school. Traub's varsity 8+ won the grand final at that event.
Also on Monday, the CRCA announced Brown coach Phoebe Murphy as the National Assistant of the Year. She was previously named the 2005 New England Region Assistant of the Year after helping the Bears to a third-place finish at the 2005 NCAA Championship last month.
