Michelle Guerette (Bristol, Conn.) officially accepted her spot as the women's single sculler on the 2005 World Championships Team, USRowing announced Tuesday. Guerette becomes the first athlete to be named to the 2005 National Team.
The Harvard graduate earned the right to represent the United States in the women's single sculls by winning the event at the 2005 National Selection Regatta I and by meeting the time standard. The event took place in early May in West Windsor, N.J., and Guerette had until June 20 to accept her spot on the team.
Guerette now will represent the United States at the 2005 FISA World Rowing Championships scheduled for August 28-September 4 in Gifu, Japan.
