With two boats advancing from the women's pair repechage to the all-important final of the Olympic qualification regatta, the Canadian crew won its race today and moves forward.
On the Rotsee course in Lucerne, Canada overtook Belarus (7:10.85) to win the rep in 7:08.74 (over 2000 metres). The Netherlands finished in 7:12.41, and do not advance.
The Canadian women's pair is Natalie Mastracci of Thorold, Ontario, and Larissa Lagzdins of Burlington, Ontario.
"There are going to be six desperate crews lined up for tomorrow's final and our women will have to give it their all to finish in the top two and book a ticket to London," said Peter Cookson, Rowing Canada Aviron High Performance Director.
The women's pair is the final boat that Canada is attempting to qualify for the 2012 Olympic regatta. The boats that have already qualified based on last year's World Championships results will compete this coming weekend at the World Cup 2, also in Lucerne, Switzerland.
