The second 2007 National Selection Regatta (NSR) will be held April 27-29 at the Finn M.W. Caspersen Rowing Center on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. The national selection regattas are the first step towards making the 2007 National Team, which will compete at the 2007 FISA World Rowing Championships August 26-September 2 in Munich, Germany.
The men's pair event leads the way in numbers of entries with 20. Fourteen of the crews come from USRowing's National Training Center. Seven past Olympians and more than 20 past national team members are scheduled to race in the event.
The lightweight women's double sculls event has 14 entries. Julie Nichols and Renee Hykel, who have represented the U.S. in the lightweight double at the past two world championships, lead a field that includes nine past national team members.
Twelve boats have entered the women's double sculls event. All four members of the women's quadruple sculls crew that raced at last year's world championships are scheduled to compete. The four women have split off into two doubles, as Lia Pernell will race with Liane Malcos and Ala Piotrowski will race with Jennifer Kaido.
The men's double sculls event also has 12 entries. The field includes four past Olympians and an additional 11 past national team members. Francis Cuddy and Shane O'Mara, who represented the U.S. in the event at last year's world championships, are scheduled to race together again this weekend.
Seven crews have entered the women's pair event, including six from USRowing's National Training Center. Anna Mickelson and Megan Cooke will be racing together after finishing fourth in the event at last year's world championships. The field includes 12 past national team members, four of whom were Olympians. Six crews are entered in the lightweight men's pair. The field is made up of 11 past national team members including two past Olympians.
NSR II racing begins on Friday, April 27, with morning time trials and afternoon heats. Heats and semifinals will be held on Saturday, with the finals being held on Sunday morning.
