The Beijing Olympics may seem far off in the distance, but preparations are well underway; on Tuesday a two-person delegation from USRowing flew to China to assess possible pre-Games training locations for the US rowing squads team, followed by three days of meetings in Beijing for all sports. USRowing executive director Glenn Merry reports by email from the road:
"We arrive Wednesday in Beijing and immediately travel to a "yet undisclosed" training site nearby. On Saturday we meet up with the rest of the delegation, consisting of summer sports, typically 2-3 reps each. We ll fly back on Thursday the 27th after seeing Olympic venues and meeting with BOCOG groups.
Should be a good trip. The flight was long but we got to see Siberia from 38,000 ft. Looks snowy and cold still."
