In addition to the event additions announced on March 24 (The Head Of The Charles Regatta Introduces New Events for 2016, the Head Of The Charles has also announced the following changes to the 2016 Regatta:
- Weigh in for lightweights will be random by crew, with crews selected by lottery drawn at Registration.
- Due to Production delays, the 2016 Volunteer jackets will not be available until March 2017. No x-smalls will be available.
- Updated Safety Committee ruling: all youth coxswains are required to take a hearing test that will be administered at Registration.
- The 2016 Alumni Crew event will include a "Half-HOCR" option, with the new course sharing the same start line with the traditional HOCR, the the finish line occurring just after the Weeks footbridge.
- A new dock will be installed at the Reunion Village allowing Alumni crews to dock immediately following their event. Boat racks will be made available. Uber surge rate may apply.
- As part of Red Bull's new sponsorship of the Championship 1x, competitors will have to complete a full 360 stake turn around the Cambridge side abutment of the Weeks Bridge. Winner of the Championship 1x will receive the winning vehicle from the Red Bull Flugtag.
- Pending results of the November Presidential election, HOCR 2017 is tentatively scheduled for the penultimate full weekend in October on the Saint-Charles River in Quebec. The course will run 33km from the Saint-Charles Lake to the Saint Lawrence River. Navigation of both the rapids and the waterfalls to be reviewed by the HOCR Race Committee.
- In the spirit of the upcoming election, the Directors' Challenge Mixed 8 must consist of 4 registered democrats and 4 registered republicans, to be coxed by a registered independent. The event will take place in the format shown here.
- Sleepboxes will be available as accommodations to 1x participants in the SADL area. Eligible scullers must launch from the Singles and Doubles Launch Site upstream of Magazine Beach. Security available upon request.
