Members of the USRowing National Team, including USRowing's Male athlete of the year and 2008 Olympian David Banks, will visit The Trenton After School Program this Friday, March 19, 2010 at 4:30pm. The visit will take place at the Trenton After School Programs facilities at 801 W. State Street. As a part of the visit, the Trenton After School Program will be presented with two rowing machines that will be donated to the program. The Olympians talk to the kids about what it takes to be a champion and show them basic rowing skills on the rowing machine.
"Our kids and their parents are excited about the prospect of meeting our Olympic Athletes," stated Ralonda Ivy Smith, Executive Director of The Trenton After School Program. "This is a great opportunity for them that they are looking forward to. We hope to develop a long-term partnership that will open doors for our students into the world of rowing and in academics through the guidance and discipline learned through rowing."
The visit is part of the Princeton National Rowing Association and USRowing's program to provide the kids of Trenton with opportunities to participate in the sport of rowing. "We are excited to be partnering with the Trenton After School Program," said Kristopher Grudt, Executive Director of the Princeton National Rowing Association. "It is our plan to build on this event to provide opportunities for the kids of Trenton to participate in rowing at the Caspersen Rowing Center on Mercer Lake. The National Team Athletes who live and train in Mercer County provide a great role model for our local youth."
