PRINCETON, N.J. – Three Rivers Rowing Association has been named the 2013 USRowing Club of the Year, the organization announced on Wednesday. Having previously won the inaugural award in 2002, and again in 2010, Three Rivers is the second three-time winner since its inception.
“We are honored to receive the 2013 USRowing Club of the Year Award,” said executive director Rick Brown. “It is a tribute to the members, athletes, volunteers and staff of the Three Rivers Rowing Association community and all that we do. We are extremely proud of what we do every year and believe that 2013 was a banner year because of our additional accomplishments.”
More than 1,100 USRowing member organizations across the country were eligible for the award, which is based on a points system focusing on the following criteria: performance, community outreach, service to rowing, USRowing participation, technology and communications, and safety.
Three Rivers Rowing Association was founded in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1984 as a nonprofit organization committed to developing and delivering safe, sustainable programs and events that promote the benefits of rowing and paddling to a diverse and growing membership. The organization offers an array of rowing programs that fit the needs of all rowing teams and individuals. The community-oriented rowing association offers programs for the visually impaired and persons with disabilities, urban youth, high school and college students, corporate rowing teams and adult rowers.
What makes Three Rivers unique, according to Brown, is that it not only serves USRowing, but it is a part of what USRowing offers – large, world class races, hosting and operating U.S. Junior National Team camps and leading community outreach efforts through its minority youth and adaptive rowing programs.
“We are proud to be a textbook example that a rowing club can serve a diverse range of individuals with a diverse range of goals and that it can be done very well,” said Brown.
As the 2013 USRowing Club of the Year, Three Rivers Rowing Association will be honored on Friday, December 6, at the USRowing Annual Convention in Seattle, Wash.
