The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association is pleased to announce that Eleanor McElvaine from the University of Washington has been selected as the Division I Assistant Coach of the Year for 2002-03. The criteria for selection is:• He/she has demonstrated outstanding commitment to his/her program• He/she has had a significant impact on the success of his/her program• He/she has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coachMcElvaine has been an Assistant Coach at Washington for 13 years. During her tenure, McElvaine has developed one of the most dominant novice programs in the country. Her crews have won gold medals nine times at the San Diego Crew Classic and nine times at the Pacific Coast/PAC-10 Championships. She has also coached three separate Varsity four crews that have won gold medals at the NCAA Championships. McElvaine is a former UW rower, has been inducted to the Husky Hall of Fame, and has been honored by US Rowing as Woman of the Year. Because of her outstanding accomplishments as an Assistant Coach, McElvaine has recently been promoted to the position of Head Coach at the University of Washington.
