row2k has had several inquiries about the implications of the increase in institutional membership dues at USRowing, and not incidental to this increase is the requirement of the Head of the Charles that rowing clubs and schools are USRowing institutional members in good standing for two years in order to qualify for entry into the regatta. While the larger issue of the benefits of institutional membership remains something for each club to parse, row2k inquired with the HOCR about the implications for future entry to the regatta.
For the benefit of those who inquired, HOCR head honcho Fred Schoch told us the following:
“Due to the high volume of calls to the HOCR offices concerning the Regatta’s policy to require all applying institutions to be members in good standing of USRowing, we are taking a fresh and exhaustive look at our requirement and are considering all of our options. A final decision will be made by mid February and will be announced at that time.”
We hope this helps!
