Stakes were high for crews on the second day of the Paralympic Rowing Regatta. Only two of the five crews from each repechage (second round race) progressed to the A Final, making the margin for error slim. The day saw a number of World Championship medallists from 2007 challenged by new and improved crews, setting the stage for thrilling Finals tomorrow.

In the "Arms Only" Women's Single, Belarus, Ukraine and China made the remaining A Final places their own early on in the race, but reigning World Champion Claudia Santos (BRA) successfully held off Poland's Martyna Snopek for a spot in the Final. China's Yeteng Tan kept his country's medal hopes alive in the first repechage of the "Arms Only" Men's Single, while last year's World Championship bronze medallist, Eli Nawi of Israel, swapped places with silver medallist, Dominic Monypenny from Australia. Monypenny will have a chance to turn the tables again in tomorrow's A Final.

The Australian double of John Maclean and Kathryn Ross dominated the first repechage of the "Trunk and Arms Mixed Double" (TAMix2x), but the real battle was for the all-important second place. The United States kept contact with the Great Britain crew for the whole race, but the British held on and crossed the line less than a second ahead of the Americans. The second repechage was a three-boat race, with Italy taking first place and Poland just qualifying for the final ahead of Ukraine at the line.

The first repechage of the "Legs, Trunk and Arms Mixed Coxed Fours" (LTAMix4+) delivered another close finish, with Great Britain crossing first and Canada just beating Brazil for the second qualifying position. In the final race of the day, the United States beat current World Champions Germany into second place, with the Russians following close behind but just not fast enough to qualify for the A Final.

Thursday's A Finals will see the first-ever Paralympic medals awarded in the sport of rowing. The final session will kick off at 15:00hrs (Beijing time) with the B Finals, with the first A Final at 16:20hrs.
