Again today due to weather conditions, the Saturday schedule for the Dad Vail Regatta has been changed significantly. In order to avoid the threat of afternoon storms and the havoc they can wreak with getting boats on the water and in particular with the river flow after a few weeks of considerable rain, the respective morning and afternoon Sunday schedules are being rowed in more or less reverse order. In addition, the entire afternoon schedule is being accelerated such that the regatta will end fully two hours earlier than is usual.
That is, the major cup races, as well as some of the NCAA and IRA championship qualifier races, which are traditionally the last races of the day, are being rowed first in each session, and the lower boats and petite finals are being rowed at the end of the session.
So instead of being the last semis of the morning, at 10:40, the men's and women's heavyweight eight semis, for example, will be the first six races of the day today, starting at 7am. Come the afternoon session, the varsity eights, typically the last races of the day, will be raced first, starting at 12 noon.
Additionally, the afternoon finals will go from 10-minute centers to seven-minute centers, and I suspect the awards ceremonies will greatly shortened, and may even take place at the end of all racing instead of on the finish line dock after each race as is the usual practice.
