Latin Challenge
Cambridge Rindge & Latin School vs. Boston Latin School
June 3, 2012 - Charles River, Boston, MA
Submitted by Dale Wickenheiser
Distance: 2.5 / 1.8 / 1.0 miles
Conditions: NW wind that varied in relation to the crews as the course bent left and right. Flat water. Minimal current.
Comments: Annual race between the two oldest public schools in the U.S. BLS (1635), CRLS (1638). First boats raced 2.5 miles. Second boats raced 1.8 miles. Third boats raced 1.0 miles.
In the 1st boat race, crews were even until the N. Beacon bridge when CRLS cut a very tight turn and took a lead. From there, they gradually opened up the lead over the course.
In the 2nd boat race, BLS took the lead off the start. CRLS went wide under the Arsenal bridge and BLS took advantage and moved away.
In the novice race, BLS took a slight lead and slowly worked out over the course. BLS was penalized 5 seconds for cutting a bouy at the last corner.
