Ed Winchester, world champion rower, five-time Canadian national team member, and longtime rowing journalist passed away yesterday, reportedly of a heart attack while rowing the erg. Born in December 1970, he was 49 years old.
Ed was the Editor of Rowing News magazine, as well as executive director of marketing and communications at the Tuck School of Business. He graduated from Carleton University and later attended Ryerson University School of Journalism. He was also the former editor and publisher of AMC Outdoors, the magazine of the Appalachian Mountain Club.
Ed represented Canada at five World Championships in three boat classes - the light men's pair, four, and eight - and won the 2000 World Championships in the light men's pair. He was an alternate on the 2000 Canadian Olympic squad.
We will add memorial information when available.
