The first spots on the road to Paris 2024 were filled at the 2023 World Championships last month in Serbia, but there is still a lot to be decided before crews line up on the Lac de Vaire-sur-Marne in France for the Games of the 33rd Olympiad. Here is the up to the minute status of qualification following the World Champs.
There are five qualification events left with four continental qualifiers and the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta (FOQR).
CONTINENTAL QUALIFICATION REGATTAS
-African Olympic Qualification Regatta, October 23-26 in Tunis, TUN
-Americas Olympic Qualification Regatta, March 14-17 in Rio de Janeiro, BRA
-Asian and Oceania Olympic Qualification Regatta, April 19-21 in Chungju, KOR
-European Olympic Qualification Regatta, April 25-28 in Szeged, HUN
FINAL OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION REGATTA
-Final Olympic Qualification Regatta, May 19-21 in Lucerne, SUI
If you need a reminder on how many training days are left until Paris, here's the countdown clock to the Opening Ceremonies.
NOTES
-The continental qualifiers are only for the W1x, M1x, LW2x, and LM2x events
-Any national federation that qualified two or more crews at the Belgrade World Championships is not eligible to compete at their respective continental qualifier and can only qualify additional crews at FOQR
-See chart at bottom for qualified crews
-There are limits to the numbers of crews a national federation can qualify at continental qualifier; details can be found on the bottom of page five here
-All 14 Olympic events will be contested at the FOQR, with the top two finishers in each event qualifying for Paris
-France already has qualified both male or female crews so their unused Host Country slots in the M1x and W1x will be reallocated to the next highest ranked eligible nations at FOQR that has not yet qualified a boat for Paris
-The four tripartite invites (2 in W1x, 2 in M1x) are FISA discretionary slots selected following all the qualification regattas
*Regarding AIN qualified crews (Individual Neutral Athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports) which at this point only includes the M1x, World Rowing states: No decision has been taken by the IOC regarding the participation of AIN athletes at the Paris Olympic Games. Where an AIN crew secures a quota place, this quota place is held until a final decision on participation at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. If any reallocation of Olympic quota places is needed to reflect any such decision, or ahead of Continental Olympic qualification regattas, such decision shall be taken in due course.
