Great Britain lead the way from the start, grabbing a canvas lead over Australia and the Netherlands a quarter of the way into the race. The British continued to extend their lead through the middle thousand, with the Dutch moving into second. Great Britain held off the charging Dutch eight at the finish to win the gold, with Australia holding off the United States and Canada for the bronze.

2023 SEASON RECAP
The 2023 season in the men's eight saw very close racing at both the European Championships and at World Cup III. Great Britain won the European championships, defeating Romania by 0.05 seconds and the Netherlands by 0.5 seconds. Then World Cup III saw Australia top the Brits by 0.6 seconds, and both the Netherlands and Romania by 1.5 seconds. World Cup II was won by the British as well, 3 seconds over Australia and 4 over Germany.
USA PROSPECTS
The United States debuts a brand new men's eight in Belgrade, with Pieter Quinton, Chris Carlson, and coxswain Jimmy Catalano returning from the crew that finished fourth in Racice. Joining them are Henry Hollingsworth, who raced in the four last year, finishing tenth. Ezra Carlson and Oliver Bub were spares in 2022. Clark Dean, a Tokyo Olympian in the four, returns to the men's team after taking 2022 off from international competition. Then Alexander Hedge and Peter Chatain will be making their senior team debuts, with Chatain moving up from the 2021 U23 men's eight. Though the lineup is new, they should compete for a spot in the A Final, where a top five finish will qualify the United States for the Paris Olympic Regatta.
MEDAL PICKS
Four crews come into Belgrade with results to warrant a podium finish, and Great Britain and Australia would be the favorites for the gold and silver. After that, the Netherlands and Romania have shown competitive speed to make the podium, but then it will come down to the United States, Germany, and Canada for who gets the precious last qualification spot. Should be a great final.
GOLD – AUSTRALIA
SILVER – GREAT BRITAIN
BRONZE - NETHERLANDS
