TOKYO 2020 RECAP
The Sinkovic brothers from Croatia took an early lead on the field and were the first pair to the 500 meter mark. Denmark was in second over a tightly packed field. Through the middle of the race, Croatia continued to extend their lead, with Romania moving into second place ahead of the Danes. At the line, Croatia took the gold by just over a second over Romania, with Denmark holding off a sprint from Canada for the bronze.
Watch the Olympic Final here, M2- final starts around 52:00.
2022 SEASON RECAP
The British pair of Tom George and Ollie Wynne-Griffith won gold at World Cup I and World Cup III, then added a silver medal at the European Championships and look primed to be in medal contention after moving from the GBR M8+ that won the bronze in Tokyo. Romania are the European Champions and New Zealand won World Cup II. Then other crews to medal that will be competing in Racice are Spain (2nd at WC1, 3rd at Euros), Australia (2nd at WC3), Serbia (3rd at WC1 and WC3), and the United States (3rd at WC3).
USA PROSPECTS
The USA men's pair of Justin Best and Michael Grady were the top USA pair at NSR 2, and were selected to the team via their NSR win and third place finish at World Cup II in May. Both rowers raced at the Tokyo Olympics: Best as 2-seat in the men's eight and Grady as 3-seat in the men's four. The duo has raced twice in Europe so far, with their bronze medal finish in Poznan and as part of the CRC and Penn AC entry in the Grand Challenge Cup at Henley. The pair should be in the mix to make the A Final with an outside shot at the podium in Racice.
MEDAL PICKS
The men's pair event is a bit crowded at the top this year with no clear favorite following the departure of the Sinkovic brothers back to the men's double. Great Britain and Romania are two of the likely medalists with Australia, Spain, Serbia, and USA fighting for a podium finish.
GOLD – GREAT BRITAIN
SILVER – ROMANIA
BRONZE - SPAIN
