Here is a picture of the stroke seat of our lightweight 8 clearing a path on our dock so that we could get out and row. He's from Canada, so the five inches of snow made him feel like he was back home.

Vicky Opitz (on the right) and Grace Latz (on the left), alumni rowers for UW-Madison jump for charity at the 2011 Polar Plunge on Lake Monona in Madison, WI. Temperature was a brisk thirty degrees. Let's not think about the water temperature, there's still ice out there. Maybe doing their part to break it apart for an early Wisco start on the spring racing season? Photo by Ted Kauffmann.

This photo is one of several taken by Dr. Alec Chester, M.D. who was on shore messing about with his new Canon EOS Rebel T2i. When he got home, he zoomed in on the boat to read the boat name (Paul Knight) and realized that he knew Paul. After an exchange of emails he sent the pictures to Paul. I was in the boat as well and offered to send the photo on to you.

It's a 6 and the actual boat has gone out every Sunday since 1936. The club, GPA, is 120 years old, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Note that they have it loaded with supplies - firewood, coffee, tarps, chairs, even a grandson sitting on boxes behind the coxswain! They row out to an island about 3km away that the club owns and stay there for the morning, drinking coffee, etc. Several other boats go as well but this is the fun one.

Winter Rowing in Boston

Hello... Sort of winter rowing. I'm writing from Gentle Giant Rowing Club in Somerville/Malden, MA. With all the snow we've had this winter, we went down to our tent to check out the amount of snow on the tent and discovered there was simply too much snow on top. But how to get it off. We had to get creative with our oars.
