This is the UCSD Men's crew team on January 17th, 2009. Obviously
we're freezing our butts off out here in Southern California. It is a balmy 75 degrees. Stern to bow: Ryan Andre, Jay Dee Morgan, Jeff Collett. Don't worry, we still have an erg camp.

Sir Matthew's Visit

I was leafing through some photos the other day and found this of the Mount St Joesph's Henley Women's Regatta 2006 crew and I thought you might want it for your "Photo of the Day" feature. Some of the girl's parents met Sir Matthew down at the course and invited him to meet the crew. He happily came up to the house and gave them a motivational chat and a bit of advice about rowing the race.

My husband broke his arm and can't erg this winter. We thought a picture of Matt Muffelman on his cast would be just the inspiration he needs to keep him going until he can get back on the water.

Here's a shot of a tattoo I got recently. 9 hours of chair time to complete this piece. You might recognize some of it from a specific magazine ad? Scott Trerrotola is responsible for the entire design. I give him a lot of credit for embracing the intensity of our sport.

The event was a novelty race, held at the conclusion of the Rutherglen Sprints Regatta (Victoria, Australia) on Sunday, January 11. We call this Monster Truck Racing: the coxswain has to be at least 90kg. Some crews used two kids to make up 90kg. The Richmond boys put in 2x90kg coxswains. After about 3 strokes one of the coxswains jumped ship.
