Trevor Jones is currently set to race the Canadian M1x at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
1. What inspired you to go to your first rowing practice; was there anything memorable about it?
I first took up rowing when someone recommended that I should try rowing because of my height (203cm tall), so I tried rowing one summer at our local club and really liked it. What keeps me coming back? I like competing in sport at a high level.
2. Was there a practice, race or other event when you fell in love with the sport, or when you knew you might not be too bad at rowing? When you thought you could make the national team?
I realized I had potential in the sport after the Canadian National Championships 2015, when, as a junior, I started to compete with people older than me and saw that I could do well and knew that I could make the jump to the next level.
3. Best race/practice, worst race/practice?
Best race: Was the 2020 Olympic Qualification race in Lucerne (2021), where I qualified for the Olympics. It was also my first race back in the single since the 2018 U23 World Championships.
Worst Practice: Any practice where the temperature drops below freezing.
4. Best/Anything you've done in the sport no one knows about?
Nothing comes to mind.
5. Any/Most important advice for young rowers?
Have fun with it.
