Canada's legs/trunk/arms mixed coxed four crew powered down the racecourse, in the last event of the day, as a busy program on Lac d'Aiguebelette came to an end.
The newly formed crew of Victoria Nolan, Veronique Boucher, Curtis Halladay, Andrew Todd and coxswain Kristen Kit took advantage of the perfect conditions to have the race of their lives, and step onto the podium in the process.
"It still doesn't feel quite real," said a smiling Todd. "We had a great race."
The inexperienced crew gained confidence as the week progressed, learning from each successive round.
"We were so prepared for this race," said Boucher. "Both physically and mentally, we nailed it."
The last time Canada stepped onto the podium in this event was in 2011, at the World Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia.
With this medal, Nolan, Boucher, Halladay, Todd and Kit have secured the crew a qualification spot at the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games next summer. They have also reinvigorated Canada's Para-rowing program.
