Competition will take place August 29-Sept. 6, 2015 on Lake Aiguebelette, France and will be the most important of the three world championships in the 2016 Olympic cycle. Of the crews that are competing, 14 will be in Olympic-class boats and will need high enough finishes to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio.
"2015 will be a very important year for the team," said USRowing Director of High Performance Curtis Jordan. "It's a marker for how well the team is developing towards Rio as well as the qualifying event for the 2016 Olympics. Our partners at the United States Olympic Committee and the National Rowing Foundation have helped support the team making our training even more productive this year.
"Both coaches and athletes have used the time and assets to produce fast boats for this year's world championships. After a very successful World Cup 2, we're all excited about the opportunity to race again at the world championships," he said.
"We are especially excited about the performance from some of our high performance club entries. The Boston Rowing Federation has produced two medal-contending boats in the women single and the light men's double. Vesper has a light women's double that will also be contending for a medal. The Oklahoma training center has produced a women's double that medaled at world cup 2 and are excited about doing the same at the Worlds. We're looking forward to a record medal performance by the team," Jordan said.
