Plovdiv, Bulgaria - The heats are done, but that doesn't mean the United States athletes racing at the 2012 World Rowing Senior and Junior Championships are taking it easy Friday.
The U.S. will send 13 crews to the line tomorrow with 12 of them still in contention to medal.
Starting the day at 9:00 a.m. will be the junior men's pair crew of Justin Murphy (Montclair, N.J.) and Nathaniel Goodman (Montclair, N.J.). They will row a repechage, or second chance race, against Russia, Germany, and China. Two crews will advance to the semifinal.
Next will be the junior men's double team of Chase Buchholz (Norfolk, Mass.) and Richard Wagner (Providence, R.I.). They will row in the quarterfinals against Russia, Venezuela, Germany, Switzerland and Bulgaria at 10:03 a.m. Three crews advance to the semifinals.
In the junior men's single sculls, Mink Graham (New Canaan, Conn.) rows at 10:10 in the quarterfinals against Spain, Russia, Slovakia, The Netherlands and Argentina. Three boats advance to the semifinals.
At 10:38 a.m., junior women's single sculler Nina Vascotto (Huntington, N.Y.) will row in the quarterfinal against Norway, The Netherlands, Spain and France with three boats advancing to the semifinals.
In the junior men's eight, the crew of coxswain Peter Overfield (Corte Madre, Calif.), Julian Goldman (Ross, Calif.), BJ Francis (St. Louis, Mo.), Harrison Van Andel (Long Beach, Calif.), Patrick Muto (Barrington, Ill.), Patrick Eble (Ft. Washington, Pa.), Gregory Davis (Daly City, Calif.), Peter Woolley (Tiburon, Calif.) and Rich Caputo (Riverside, Conn.) will row in a repechage against Bulgaria, Denmark, Romania and Serbia at 11:34 a.m. The first two boats will advance to the top final.
At 11:55 a.m., the junior men's four crew of Ryan Hails (Osprey, Fla.), Ben Chuter (Portola Valley, Calif.), Allen Reitz (Long Beach, Calif.) and John Chuter (Portola Valley, Calif.) row in the semifinal against Croatia, Germany, Italy, Denmark and Slovenia. Three crews advance to the final.
In the junior women's four, the crew of Kendall Chase (Evergreen, Colo.), Georgia Radcliffe (Vienna, Va.), Deirdre Fitzpatrick (Cheshire, Conn.) and Ruth Narode (Portland, Ore.) rows for a spot in the final at 12:09 against China, Greece, New Zealand, Germany and Ireland. Three boats advance.
Next up will be lightweight senior single sculler Ursula Grobler (Pretoria, South Africa) who will row at 12:37 in the semifinal against Ireland, Italy, Australia, China and Belarus with three boats advancing.
In the lightweight senior men's single sculls Andrew Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) will row at 12:44 p.m. in the semifinal against Bulgaria, Denmark, Australia, Slovakia and France with three boats advancing to the final.
Rowing at 1:05 p.m. is the lightweight senior men's pair crew of Will Daly (Vail, Colo.) and Greg Flood (Tulsa, Okla.). They will row in the semifinal against Mexico, the Czech Republic, France, Denmark and Italy. Three boats advance to the final.
In the lightweight men's quadruple sculls, the crew of Sam Cunningham (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Dave Smith (Seattle, Wash.) Bob Duff (Huntington Valley, Pa.), and Shane Madden (Ambler, Pa.) row at 1:05 p.m. against Australia, Italy, Denmark, Greece, and Hungary with three boats going to the final.
In the last race of the day the junior men's quadruple sculls team of Chris Wales (Seattle, Wash.), Ezra Carlson (Orleans, Calif.), Jacob Coert (Filmore, Calif.) and Alex Buck (Greenwich, Con.) row at 4 p.m. in the C/D semifinal against Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Norway, Denmark and Turkey. Three boats will advance to the second level final and the next three go to the C final.
