The 2007 Under 23 National Team roster has been set, USRowing announced on Friday. Ten crews will represent the United States at the 2007 FISA World Rowing Under 23 Championships scheduled for July 26-29 in Strathclyde, Great Britain.
The U.S. will have crews competing in the men's eight, men's quadruple sculls, lightweight men's four, lightweight men's quadruple sculls, lightweight men's double sculls, women's eight, women's pair, women's quadruple sculls, lightweight women's double sculls and lightweight women's single sculls.
The 41-person roster includes 14 members of the 2006 Under 23 National Team, with seven returning medalists.
Six members from last year's gold-medal women's eight will be competing in Strathclyde. Katelin Snyder, Anne Kennedy, Megan Smith and Kerry Birk will race in the women's eight, while Gevvie Stone and Esther Lofgren will join the women's quadruple sculls. Lofgren also was a member of the 2006 Senior National Team, where she won a bronze medal in the women's four at the 2006 FISA World Championships in Eton, England.
Richard Klein is the sole returning silver medalist from last year's lightweight men's quadruple sculls crew. Three members of last year's fifth-place men's eight return to this year's boat -- Nathan Rooks, Will England and Jesse Johnson. Last year's men's quadruple sculls crew will have three returning members, with Ted Sobolewski and Pat Sullivan racing in this year's boat and Charlie Cole joining the men's eight. Greg McKallagat returns in the lightweight men's four.
In addition, three members of 2006 Junior National Team will join this year's squad. Lindsay Meyer, a bronze medalist in the single sculls at the 2006 FISA Junior World Championships, will compete this year in the women's quadruple sculls. Jenny Cromwell and Taryn O'Connell will race in the women's pair. Cromwell took silver in the women's eight, while O'Connell placed seventh in the women's four last year in Amsterdam.
