As debate in Congress over a potential change or outright ban of the popular TikTok app increases, an unlikely group of defenders of the app has emerged: coxswains.
"During the winter, we have clipboards, we record times, and we change the songs during steady state," said Sophie Rizzo (CU '26) in recorded testimony earlier this week. "If we are not making TikToks of our team, or doing slo-mos of ourselves putting 20 layers on before coxing a water practice on March 7th, what can we do?"
A loss of TikTok, added Rizzo, would force coxswains to go back to thinking about tactics, lineups, motivation and technique, which, she noted, "is really hard."
Congressional leaders had no immediate content, beyond Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) snickering at the entry of the word "coxswain" into the Congressional Record.
