row2k is updating our internal style sheet and will henceforward use the following terms in all future features, reports, articles, news, comments, internal and external emails, texts, conversations, and thoughts.
- Instead of coxswain (or cox'n), in order to avoid off-color jokes, row2k will now use boatswain or bos'n
- Instead of a shell, in deference to living things with shells, row2k will now use 'exoskeletal watercraft'
- Instead of 'taking a 10' or 20, row2k will now use 'give a 10'
- Instead of 'put on (or take off) a clam,' row2k will now use 'put on (or take off) a plastic approximation of a marine bivalve mollusk.'
We are still working on replacements for the following commonplace but arguably problematic terms:
- Straight boat
- Coxless boat
- Bowball
- Liberate the lobster
An absolute liberated lobsta
