Creators of the "Unofficial Official 9 1/2 Weeks Fan Site" have petitioned the filmmakers to change the official name of the Kim Basinger/ Mickey Rourke movie to Title IX and a Half Weeks.
"It is our view that this film is an empowering one for women," Richard Drop, who runs the site from his bedroom in his mother's house, posted on the Web site. "I was 28 when that movie came out, and a lot has happened since then, and I just think the movie has adapted with the times. It's still incredibly relevant. Then I started watching women's sports on television, and it just came to me, just like that."
"And Kim Basinger dresses like a man in the movie, so it's not like, exploitive or anything," he said. "All very tastefully done, as they say."
We were going to rename it "49 Days," in honor of that rule, but that's not long enough to do all the incredibly cool stuff in that movie," he said. "You need the full nine and half weeks, or 66.5 days, as it were. But then I thought if Kim Basinger's character took that much time off, she would get out of shape, and it just wouldn't be the same movie. See what I mean? It makes a lot of sense if you really think about it."
Calls to the film's producers were unreturned at press time, and calls to Drop's home were consistently answered by an older woman who bellowed "Buzz off you pervs!"
