Racing starts Friday morning on the Cooper River, with heats in all three Divisions, and then an afternoon session of Reps for the D2 and D3 teams. D1 dropped the Repechage round from the program this year, a story we will cover as the weekend unfolds, but the key takeaway is that D1 heats will now send the top three crews direct to the Saturday A/B Semis, so expect fierce racing right off the bat for the third place "transfer" spot in every D1 heat.
With both of the top seeded D2 and D3 V8s--Cal Poly Humboldt in D2 and Wellesley in D3--having slightly lower seeds for their second boat, there are a few teams with a possible path to those team titles, and in fact 2021 D2 champ Central Oklahoma has 1 point edge on paper if the races go according to the seeds.
Of course, it is worth remembering that racing very often throws the seeding out the window, especially at the NCAAs, and we have seen the D1 team championship come down to a tie, and the V8 tie-breaker, each of the past two year.
All in all, should make for an exciting Day 1 of the 2023 NCAA Championships.

Results & ScheduleYou can find more helpful info, to include directions for getting to the Cooper to watch in person on our Resources page, and here is a tip we picked up from the timing folks at the course yesterday:
If you are checking results on your phone, turn it sideways to display the splits. The new-look timing website has a feature on the mobile version that will switch the view to include splits and lineups if you put your phone on its side. Be sure to click into the individual race to access the feature. Give it a try tomorrow: the first splits should be in there a little after 8:13 am on Friday as the opening heat comes down the course.
