The Head Of The Charles® Regatta will expand its social media channels for the 47th annual event. The world's largest rowing regatta will provide its Facebook and Twitter followers with additional content and offer incentives to drive new fans through a flow of new information and fan driven content. In addition to providing news and offering contests with prizes on the two popular social media platforms, for the first year the Head Of The Charles will begin using foursquare to add a more interactive element for fans and rowers alike attending the event.
Throughout regatta weekend, Head Of The Charles will hold two contests that can be entered using Facebook and Twitter. A photo caption contest will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Organizers will tweet and post an interesting photo that occurs either on or around the river and fans are encouraged to reply with a creative and descriptive caption. The top three entries will win Official Head Of The Charles Regatta gear.
The Regatta will also host a photo contest through Facebook and Twitter encouraging fans to submit their favorite original photos throughout the weekend. Prizes, including Official HOCR gear, will be awarded to the best photos in the following categories: best action, best crash and most scenic. Off the river, prizes will be awarded for best dressed spectator, cutest dog and most appetizing food shot. Head Of The Charles will also run a video contest through its Youtube channel that will award spectators prizes for submitting the best video clips in similar categories.
As in previous years, the Regatta will continue to broadcast news and results through these channels.
Also new to this year's regatta is the addition of foursquare. Spectators are encouraged to check in at popular areas throughout the course including the Cambridge Boat Club, Weeks Footbridge, Eliot Enclosure, Rowing and Fitness Expo, Reunion Village and sponsor higlights including the Brooks Brothers merchandise tent and new Samsonite obstacle course. At the end of the weekend, the mayor of each of the designated areas will be awarded with Official HOCR gear.
