The biggest outdoor party of the fall in Greater Boston is this weekend, with the 43rd annual Head Of The Charles Regatta! More than 8,200 athletes representing 600 universities, schools and rowing clubs from all over the globe will be racing this year. It's anticipated as many as 300,000 spectators will be attending!
What makes the Head Of The Charles so special is that there is so much more than rowing at the world's largest regatta. There's great energy all weekend, both on and off the water. Check out these venues located throughout the celebrated 3-mile racecourse:
Rowing & Fitness EXPO
The EXPO has all the coolest gear and healthy resources, for rowers and non-rowers alike. Nearly 60 merchants and exhibitors of all lifestyles will be there-including artisans, clothiers, health organizations, sports groups and much more! This year, Nautica is selling "Head Of The Charles" fleece from their new innovative OuterLite Jackets collection. Applaud the fastest rowers who will win the coveted title of "Head Of the Charles" at the three Awards Ceremonies scheduled throughout the weekend. Take the free shuttle to this action-packed venue, which is located at the Finish Area Launch Site (FALS) at Herter Park in Brighton. The HOCR Rowing & Fitness EXPO is open to the public Saturday until 8 PM; on Sunday until just before 5:00 PM.
Reunion Village
For decades, the Head Of The Charles has been considered the unofficial reunion event for schools, clubs and groups from around the nation. The Regatta's "Reunion Village" is a convenient easy-to-find central destination spot for people to meet with friends and family. 'The Village' has one of the best vistas to watch the race events, real-time competitor updates, warm food and cold drinks. Audi of America will be showcasing its latest German-engineered automobiles at 'The Village.' "Reunion Village" is located by the Weeks Footbridge, on the 'Boston side' of the river, and is open to the general public. Admission is $1 per person.
Row-A-Palooza
Get your groove on at "Row-A-Palooza" rock 'n roll (or "rock 'n row!") music festival all weekend. Hear up-and-coming acts and local favorites, while watching thousands of the worlds' best rowers! Reggae legends Toots and the Maytals headlines this year on Saturday. Renowned guitarist Tim Reynolds from the Dave Matthew's Band is playing on Sunday afternoon. ZonePerfect is presenting this year's Row-A-Paloaza and will be giving out plenty of all-natural nutrition bars throughout the weekend. The Head Of The Charles "Row-A-Palooza" rock-fest runs all weekend, and is located on the 'Cambridge side' of the Weeks Footbridge. Best of all: it's free!
