Your row2k recap for the week that was, from Virginia to Vegas, and heaps of spots in between.
Flipping Good Times at Flicks
At least two scullers at the Flicks went the scull-and-swim route, though to be fair, not until after finishing their races in challenging enough conditions that the Flicks this week wisely ran ran sans the novice/freshmen races and with only varsity folks in the sculling events.
This swimmer, er sculler, took his dip after collecting the win, and pulled himself back into his boat like a pro, to cheers from the bank--you can see the whole sequence here - which is interrupted briefly by a photo of another single on a launch.
"Always Know Where the Camera Is" of the Week
Congrats to these GW rowers at the St. Joe's Invitational for spotting row2k.
Only Thing Worse Than The Dreaded Cross-Cross Tailwind - Graupel?
There was some debate at row2k HQ as to whether this description indicated a particularly angry cross-wind or perhaps just a duplicitous, double-crossing sort of breeze.
Elsewhere, there were reports of some Graupel, which is worth a Google and, suffice to say, means that winter-y rowing weather is not quite done with us just yet - several regattas got hit with hail, what the...
Bow Art, For the Win
If you are planning to cross the line first, might as well make a statement:
The Watchful Eye
Last week, the eagles and ospreys were getting into it at Overpeck, but this week, the Lake Carnegie eagle was above all that fray:
Check out the rest of those photos here.
We have snagged eagle photos every racing weekend this year going back to trials, at four different venues: Sarasota, Mercer, Carnegie, Overpeck.
What Happens in Vegas...
There were a bunch of big regattas over the weekend, including the Pac-12 Invite at Lake Las Vegas; here's a quick rundown of what went down in the desert:
Umm...Bulldozers in the Boat-yard?
Dance-Off During the Delay
There was some downtime on Sunday while teams waited for the winds to permit racing, so Stanford and Iowa did the only thing they could do: a Dance-off!
Now, Stanford may have won every race in their full squad's season debut this weekend, but the real question remains: who won this battle between the Cardinal and the Hawkeyes?
Launch Yoga, Anyone?
We spotted this on the coaches' party barge:
Flexibility is key, after all.

STAN 7.17.15
CLEM 7.36.51
UCLA 7.42.80
IOWA 7.70.36
This typo-ed race time for Iowa's went viral, popping up in at least three race recaps subsequently, despite definitely not being a very plausible result, even at a glance.
Digit-al Difficulties (Or, The Livestream Gets the Finger)
The Facebook Live streaming did have a few technical difficulties:
Hey, folks: that's life in live "tv"...
Taking the Champs to the Bridge, and a Bit
Willing to bet this clip was watched in launches and truck cabs all over the country when it posted on Saturday:
And, as we saw in Monday's Video of the Day, it was still tight at the finish.

Best Boat Name of the Week
Lake Braddock takes the title, with their "Beary McBear Face" at the top of this article, but here's our honorable mention, spotted at the Flicks:
The row2k Top Results of the Week
While looking back at the week's results, unfortunately it is worth noting that it looks like the golden age of results reporting and livestreaming is still off in the future. We had to go find results from six different results providers, only one of which let us know about their event and others that are not able to be captured, and then of course there are all the PDFs that pour in even for small events, sometimes hours and days after the racing (if ever). Getting everyone to play nice is also a mug's game - I promise we have tried, countless times.
Check out these items you may have missed this week:
