For the past 10 years, Philadelphia City Rowing has worked to increase diversity and inclusion in the sport of rowing. Although we are proud of the work we've done to advance the sport of rowing for young people of color here in Philadelphia, the rowing community remains a predominantly white space. We want to do something about it. We want to help YOU do something about it. Philadelphia City Rowing has joined forces with Row New York to provide strategies you can use to make your boathouse a safer and more welcoming space for Black athletes and other athletes of color. In addition to these strategies, we have dedicated a page on our website to provide additional details and resources (link in bio). We hope you will join us in our effort to increase diversity and inclusion in the sport of rowing. We cannot do it alone. It is time for the rowing community to take action. Feel free to reach out to us with any question you may have. This process will be a team effort, and we want you on our team. (LINK IN BIO for additional details and resources)

As we anticipate getting back on the water for the first time this season, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the very first time a boat launched from Lincoln Park Boat Club which, coincidentally, happened 110 years ago today on June 8, 1910. In celebration of 110 years of LPBC (and 110 more to come!), for the remainder of 2020, we will be bringing you stories of the individuals and events throughout Lincoln Park Boat?s Club?s history that helped shape it to be the organization it is today. We?re calling it 110 Strong & 110 More. And we encourage you to share your stories, photos, and tidbits! Our community has shaped our club so it?s only right that you tell it?s story as well. Email your stories or share them on social media, making sure to tag @lpboatclub and using the hashtag #LPBC1910. Check the comments for details on #lpboatclub?s founding or head to our Facebook page for info on the photos plus more pics.

In the wake of the horrific murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery and the nationwide protests that have followed, we at MAC Rowing wish to express our support for and solidarity with Black Americans, people of color generally and the Black Lives Matter movement. We do not believe that demanding an end to racist killings of black and brown people anywhere to be a controversial position. The fact that the statement that black lives matter even needs to be made is evidence of how difficult things are for the Black communities in this country. . We are proud of our athletes and alumni who have been involved in protests or who have been inspired to participate in other forms of political activism during this time of national mourning and outrage and urge the rowing community at large to do what it can to combat racism in their communities and work harder to make our historically white sport more diverse and inclusive. We at MAC will seek to increase our engagement in the hopes of acting as an example as well as a safe home for young athletes of color. . . #blacklivesmatter #georgefloyd #breonnataylor #ahmaudarbery #enoughisenough
