The Gray Knights Rowing Club is a small, inclusive masters rowing club located in Washington, D.C. We welcome a diverse group of athletes of various ages, skill levels, and rowing goals. We work hard and strive to improve, but greatly value fun, friendship, and developing community. We practice at Thompson Boat Center all year round, with an approximately 8-month-long on-the-water season between March-November, and a 4-month-long indoor winter training season.
Position overview:
The Gray Knights Rowing Club is seeking a part-time head coach to run its year-round sweep program. The head coach will be responsible for coaching adult athletes on and off the water, preparing practice plans and lineups, and assisting with equipment and logistics. This role will require approximately 10-12 hours per week, generally three weeknight evenings and Saturday morning.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training and practice plan to improve masters rowers’ technique and fitness levels
- Set lineups and lead practices
- Prepare for and coach team at regattas during on-the-water season
- Ability to develop rowing technique and athletic conditioning in athletes of varying ages and abilities
- Assist board with maintaining equipment and team logistics
- Support team’s mission to promote inclusive rowing, while having fun and building community
Suggested qualifications:
- 1-3 years of coaching experience
- Excellent teaching and communication skills
- Boat license and water safety certification (can obtain upon hire)
- US Rowing Association Level 1 Coaching Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Two references, at least one rowing related.
