USRowing is excited to announce the first 21 athletes who will represent the United States at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this summer. In addition, USRowing has named the men's eight that will represent the U.S. at the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta this May for the chance to qualify for Paris.
Liam Corrigan (Old Lyme, Conn./Harvard University/California Rowing Club), Michael Grady (Pittsburgh, Pa./Cornell University/California Rowing Club), Nick Mead (Strafford, Pa./Princeton University/New York Athletic Club), and Justin Best (Kennett Square, Pa./Drexel University/California Rowing Club) brought home a silver medal in the men's four from the 2023 World Rowing Championships and will be back to represent the U.S. in the event in Paris. All four rowers will be competing in their second Olympic Games. Corrigan, Mead, and Best were part of the men's eight that finished fourth in Tokyo, while Grady was part of the men's four that finished fifth. The quartet has raced on 28 national teams across the under 19, under 23, and senior levels, bringing a wealth of international racing experience to the squad.
Coming off a bronze-medal performance at the 2023 World Rowing Championships, Sophia Vitas (Franklin, Wis./University of Wisconsin/ USRowing Training Center – Sarasota) and Kristi Wagner (Weston, Mass./Yale University/ARION) will be looking to return to the medal stand in the women's double sculls in Paris. Now a five-time national team member, Wagner will be racing at her second Olympic Games, having finished fifth in the event in Tokyo. Also a five-time national team member, Vitas will be making her Olympic debut in Paris.
In the lightweight women's double sculls, Michelle Sechser (Folsom, Calif./University of Tulsa/ USRowing Training Center – Princeton) and Molly Reckford (Short Hills, N.J./Dartmouth College/New York Athletic Club) have been reunited for Paris after racing in different boats in 2023. Sechser and Reckford finished fifth in the event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and won a silver medal at the 2022 World Rowing Championships, with Sechser also winning a silver medal in the event in 2023. Both two-time Olympians, Sechser will be racing on her 12th national team, while Reckford will be competing on her fifth team.
USRowing is also announcing the 13 women who will make up the women's eight and four in Paris:
The list includes six Olympic veterans and eight first-time Olympians. Musnicki will be racing in her fourth Olympic Games, having raced in the women's eight at the last three Games including winning gold medals in 2012 and 2016. In addition to Musnicki, Buck, Coffey, and Salmons were part of the women's eight that finished fourth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, while Collins and Wanamaker finished seventh in the four. Bruggeman was an alternate in Tokyo. The U.S. won silver in the women's eight and finished fourth in the women's four at the 2023 World Rowing Championships.
USRowing also named the men's eight that will race at the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta. The U.S. failed to qualify for Paris after finishing sixth at last year's world championships and will need a top-two finish at the qualification regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland, to earn a spot in the Olympics. Dean will be looking to make his second Olympic team, having finished fifth in the men's four in Tokyo, while the other members of the crew are looking to make their first Olympic team.
With the selection camp now complete, the focus turns to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials – Rowing that will take place April 4-7 in Sarasota, Fla. Rowing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place July 27-August 4. The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are scheduled from August 28 to September 8, with Para rowing events beginning August 30. USRowing previously named the first two Paralympic boats in January.
